Prospecting the Afghan market with Iranian saffron

Ali Hosseini, referring to the increase in saffron production this year, said: Following the rains at the end of last year and the beginning of this year, saffron farms are in very good condition and production is expected to reach 500 tons this year.

He continued: Increasing production means the need for more consumer markets, but according to the policies made in the field of foreign exchange, it is not possible to develop foreign consumer markets.

According to Hosseini, تا 70 to 80% of the saffron produced in the country should be exported so that the market for this product remains balanced.

Referring to the efforts of Afghan traders to export the country’s saffron under his own name, he said: Reports show that the export of saffron from informal sources to Afghanistan is increasing and the country’s traders easily take the product available to Iranian farmers abroad and under the name They sell themselves in the export market.

Hosseini said that the reason for this was the wrong policy in the field of foreign trade. According to him, ‌ officials are marketing the future of Afghan saffron with wrong policies.

Hosseini reminded that the official harvest of modern saffron in the country will start on October 11, adding: Before reaching the peak of saffron production and supply, it is necessary to think about solving the foreign trade problems of this valuable product.

A member of the National Saffron Council considered it impossible to predict the export price of saffron for this year due to the problems that have arisen.

Hosseini stated that in the last crop year, at some point, the price of each kilogram of saffron reached 10 to 12 million Tomans, and said: Currently, the price of each kilogram of saffron produced last year has decreased to 9 million Tomans.
