Reduction of saffron harvest in Khorasan Razavi

The director of horticulture affairs of the Khorasan Razavi Agricultural Jihad Organization
announced a 35% reduction in saffron harvest in the province this year.

Mohammad Reza Ghodsi stated:
Torbat-e Heydariyeh and Zaveh counties with 50% reduction in harvest had the most damage and Neishabour county had the least damage
in saffron production.

He stated:
Last year, saffron was harvested in the amount of 243 tons in the province.
This amount was expected to reach 270 tons this year, but due to the high cold and damage to crops,
this year the harvest in the whole province reached 190 tons.

In response to the question whether saffron cultivation in other provinces compensates for the decrease in saffron harvest in the province,
Ghodsi said:
78% of the total saffron production in the country belongs to Khorasan Razavi, while saffron cultivation in other provinces is insignificant.

The director of horticulture affairs of the Khorasan Razavi Agricultural Jihad Organization stated:
We saw the least damage in the farms where the farmers used suitable seeds and had timely irrigation.
