Reduction of saffron production in Iran due to cold

While more than a month has passed since the saffron harvest from the country’s farms, a member of the National Saffron Council announced a decrease in saffron production due to the cold wave at the end of the harvest season and said: Ministry of Jihad Agriculture to inform the public and increase buyers and exporters. To plan the market, it is better to announce the exact production statistics as soon as possible.

Ali Hosseini stated: About 24 provinces of the country are involved in saffron production, about 96% of which is produced in the two provinces of Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan, and the area under cultivation of this product in these two provinces reached more than 90,000 hectares this year. The average harvest of 3.5 to 4 tons of this product per hectare was predicted to reach saffron production this year to more than 360 tons.

He added: Due to the cold wave that reached the two provinces of Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan at the end of the saffron harvest season, the production of this product decreased, but there are still no accurate statistics on saffron harvest and production, and the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture as the market production manager. It is better for agricultural products to announce the exact production statistics of this product as soon as possible so that people know and buyers and exporters can plan for the future of this product market, but it is thought that more than 300 tons of saffron has been produced in the country this year.
