Rising price of red gold (saffron) in North Khorasan

The horticultural director of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization announced
an increase in the price of red gold (saffron) produced in the province.

Mohammad Ali Sharikian, pointing out that the area under saffron cultivation has been 690 hectares this year, added:
the farmers of the province managed to harvest 3.3 tons of saffron. This amount was three tons last year.

He continued:
for each hectare, five kilograms of saffron have been harvested from the agricultural lands of the province.

Regarding the saffron market in the province, he said:
initially, farmers sold each kilogram of saffron at a price of 4.3 million tomans, which has now reached 5.5 million tomans per kilogram.

The official explained:
The lifespan of saffron is seven to 10 years, and this plant starts flowering from the first year, but in the fourth year, its harvest becomes economical.
