Saffron cultivation in Kermanshah reached 1000 hectares

According to the horticulture director of the Kermanshah Agricultural Jihad Organization, saffron cultivation in this province reached one thousand hectares within three years.

Reza Zarei, referring to the saffron cultivation development plan in the province, said: in a three-year plan that started this year, the area under saffron cultivation in the province will increase by 800 hectares and reach about one thousand hectares.

Zarei, stating that this year we had the development of 150 hectares of saffron farms in the province, said: In previous years, 185 hectares of saffron were planted in farms in Kermanshah province, which has now reached 335 hectares.

Horticulture director of Kermanshah Jihad Agricultural Organization added: Most of the new saffron cultivation has been done in Kermanshah city farms, although this year we have also cultivated saffron in other cities such as Dalahu, Sahneh, Islamabad-e-Gharb, Gilan-e-Gharb and Javanroud.

Referring to the end of the saffron cultivation season in the province, Zarei said: saffron cultivation started in late September in the province and continued until early October.

Referring to the support for the development of saffron cultivation, he said: This year, half of the cost of preparing onions for saffron cultivation was provided to applicants for free.

He continued: Any farmer who has enough land and can irrigate his fields twice in October, can plant saffron.

Horticulture director of Kermanshah Jihad Agricultural Organization also pointed to the fact that saffron cultivation is seven years old and said: the yield of saffron farms varies depending on the year of cultivation, so that saffron farms have a yield of 1.5 kg per hectare in the first year and this yield in the second year It reaches about 3.5 kg per hectare and then more than five kg and sometimes up to 9 kg.

He continued: The average harvest of saffron in the farms of Kermanshah province is currently six kilograms per hectare.
