The study team conducted a 12-week study on 60 individuals with anxiety and depression that were controlled in two groups using saffron extract.
To do this, each participant was given a capsule containing 50 mg of saffron or a placebo capsule for 12 weeks twice a day. They also responded to the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) during the first, sixth and twelfth weeks.
Although only 54 participants completed this study, the results of the study showed that people who used saffron had significant and significant changes in the responses to the BDI and BAI questionnaires.
Based on the findings of this study, researchers concluded that taking saffron supplements would have significant effects on the treatment of depression and anxiety. Of course, it should be noted that previous studies also confirmed the positive effects of saffron on these diseases. Studies have shown that taking saffron can even benefit from anti-depressant drugs like fluoxetine (Prozac), with the difference and advantage that it’s faster and less likely to cause side effects.
