Saffron processing in South Khorasan
Birjand – the head of the Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization of South Khorasan announced the launch of 20 units of barberry and saffron processing in the province.
Hashem Valipur Motlagh said in a statement to the correspondent of Mehr: “Currently, nine units of grading and packing saffron are operating in South Khorasan.
He said the units had a production capacity of 3,124 tons and said that these units were launched in the cities of Birjand, Qayin, Tabas, Khosf and Ferdows.
Investing 115 billion rials in saffron processing units
The chairman of the Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization of Khorasan Province announced an investment of 115 billion and 922 million riyals to launch the units and said: “The establishment of these units for 112 people has been created directly.”
Vali Pourmotal, referring to the second rank of Southern Khorasan in producing saffron in the country, said that this year, it is expected to produce 56 tons of saffron in the province.
He continued: Currently about 15,114 hectares of South Khorasan agricultural land is under cultivation of saffron.
The head of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of South Khorasan also referred to the establishment of 25 barges and a unit for the production of barberry in the province and said: Of these, 11 units are related to packaging, production of water and barberry syrup.

But Pour Omlagh, saying that the cost of running these units amounted to 182.57 million rials, said that these units have provided employment for 168 people.
He expects to harvest 14,000 and 260 tons of barberry in South Khorasan this year, adding that this year, 14,780 hectares of South Khorasan gardens are located under barberry planting.
Head of the Jihad Agriculture Organization of Khorasan-e-Southern continued: It is expected that 150 billion and 700 million tomans will be allocated to barberry exploiters in South Khorasan this year.
