Saffron product of Markazi province can compete with Khorasan saffron
Horticulture director of Jihad Agricultural Organization of Markazi province said:
saffron cultivation in the province started on 10 September and will continue until 10 October.
Ali Asghar Zarei stated that the area under saffron cultivation in Markazi province is 85 hectares and added:
it is predicted that another eight hectares will be added to the area under saffron cultivation in the province by the end of this year.
While emphasizing the promotion of saffron cultivation in the province,
one of the advantages of saffron cultivation due to the problems of water shortage and recent droughts,
the low need of this plant for water and said:
saffron cultivation is suitable for areas facing water shortage problems.
Zarei, stating that last year 255 kg of saffron was harvested from the farms of the province, added:
an average of three kg of saffron was harvested per hectare.
While emphasizing the high quality of saffron crop in this province and being competitive with Khorasan saffron, he said:
The farmers of the province have found the necessary familiarity with the cultivation
of this crop and while being aware of the benefits of cultivating this crop, are developing saffron cultivation.
Zarei further mentioned the most saffron cultivation in the province in Khomein city with 21 hectares,
Delijan 15 hectares and neighborhoods of 11 hectares and said:
with the promotion and development of saffron cultivation in the province,
the field of processing industries of this product will be provided in the province.
In the end, the director of horticulture of Jihad Keshavarzi of Markazi province pointed out:
the saffron harvest in the province will start on the first of October and will continue for 20 days.
