The director of horticulture of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of Kermanshah province predicted that the saffron production in Kermanshah has reached one ton.
Reza Zarei stated that the area under saffron cultivation in Kermanshah province is 300 hectares and added:
185 hectares of this amount have been planted in previous years and have reached the fertility stage, and another 115 hectares have been planted this year.
He added:
The average yield of saffron in fertile farms is about six kilograms per hectare and in farms where the first year of cultivation is, between 1.5 and two kilograms per hectare.
Horticulture director of Jihad Agricultural Organization of Kermanshah province, referring to the forecast of an increase of about 400 kg of Saffron product in the province compared to last year, said:
While about 600 kilograms of saffron were produced in the province last year, it is estimated that the province’s saffron production will reach about one ton this year.
He stated that in all cities of Kermanshah province, except for the two tropical cities of Qasr Shirin and Sarpolzahab, we have saffron cultivation, and said:
the highest area under saffron cultivation in the province is allocated to Kermanshah province .
Zarei added: Saffron grown in Kermanshah province is of high quality.
Referring to the beginning of saffron harvest in the province, Zarei said:
the saffron harvest will continue for the next two weeks.
Referring to the compatibility of saffron with the climatic conditions of the province, he said: “It is planned to develop saffron cultivation in the province.”
