Saffron production in Kermanshah province reaches one ton

The horticulture director of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of Kermanshah province predicted that saffron production in the province would reach one ton this year.

Reza Zarei stated that the area under saffron cultivation in Kermanshah province is 300 hectares and added: 185 hectares of this amount have been cultivated in previous years and have reached the fertile stage, and another 115 hectares have been cultivated this year.

He added: The average yield of saffron in fertile farms is about six kilograms per hectare and in farms that are the first year of cultivation, between 1.5 to two kilograms per hectare.

Horticulture director of Kermanshah Jihad Agricultural Organization, referring to the forecast of an increase of about 400 kg of saffron produced in the province compared to last year, said: While last year about 600 kg of saffron was produced in the province, this year saffron production is estimated at about one ton Reach.

He said that in all cities of Kermanshah province except the two tropical cities of Qasr Shirin and Sarpolzahab, we have saffron cultivation, he said: the highest area under saffron cultivation in the province belongs to Kermanshah city.

Zarei added: Saffron cultivated in Kermanshah province is of high quality.

Referring to the beginning of saffron harvest in the province, Zarei said: saffron harvest will continue for the next two weeks.

Referring to the compatibility of saffron with the climatic conditions of the province, he said: it is planned to develop saffron cultivation in the province.
