Saffron production is no longer cost-effective
Vice President of the House of Representatives of Khorasan Razavi said: Due to the significant reduction in the price of saffron, the production of this product is no longer economical.
Hamid Banai stated that the Ministry of Jihad-e-Agriculture has agreed to the guaranteed purchase of saffron at a price that is in favor of the producer, adding that in addition to the guaranteed purchase, the packaging of this product with a specific brand should also be considered. He pointed out that the government can enter with a comprehensive plan to buy saffron, adding: the price set for the purchase of saffron should include the cost of the product, not just cover the cost of production. By determining the real price, the hands of traders will be shortened from the market of this product.
Banai stated: Iranian saffron, due to climatic conditions, has unique properties and characteristics in the world and must be exported through a product with an Iranian brand and identity card.

Banai considered the defense of Iran’s red gold possible with the approval of the comprehensive national plan for saffron and said: Since 1390, the comprehensive national plan for saffron is in the approval process, which is still moving between the government and parliament and has not been approved by parliament. In Khorasan Razavi, it was planned to establish a saffron development fund, which has not been achieved to date.
