South Khorasan’s share of saffron exports is $ 100 million
The head of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Saffron, Barberry, Jujube, Pomegranate and Medicinal Plants of South Khorasan said:
135 tons of saffron worth $ 270 million is exported annually to more than 50 countries, of which South Khorasan’s share is $ 100 million. .
Quoting the Birjand Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Mohsen Ehtesham added:
out of a total of 300 tons of saffron in the world, 250 tons worth more than 800 billion Tomans are produced in Iran,
50 tons of which are the result of the efforts of farmers in South Khorasan.
He added:
most importantly, a monopoly, and according to annual statistics, has a foreign exchange value of more than $ 300 million.
The head of Birjand Chamber of Commerce, Mining and Agriculture noted:
On average, cultivating each hectare of saffron during a crop year produces 270 people a day, which is more than 7.22 per year,
considering the area under cultivation of 80,000 hectares of this crop in the region.
which plays a major role in the lives of farmers in Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan.
Ehtesham reminded:
Saffron has a high employment potential and currently about 800,000 farmers in the three provinces of Khorasan
are active in the cultivation and production of this product and many other people are working in 40 saffron-related enterprises.
He added:
Considering the turmoil in the domestic market and the presence of profiteers and brokers,
setting up an agricultural commodity exchange seems necessary.
The Vice President of the National Saffron Council of Iran pointed out:
The launch of this stock exchange, while helping farmers in discovering prices,
will enable the management of the saffron market within the organization and better influence on the global saffron market.
