Special attention to saffron cultivation in Zanjan province
The head of the Studies and Engineering Department of the General Department of Natural Resources and Watershed Management of Zanjan Province said:
Saffron cultivation in Zanjan, which is one of the arid regions of the country,
should be considered by the officials due to the very low irrigation needs.
Emphasizing the need to promote the cultivation of some plant species, Jafar Bayat said:
Experts have identified drought-resistant and water-resistant species and we expect the cultivation
of these species to expand to deal with the water crisis.
He added:
According to studies, saffron is one of the species that has a good market and is also a plant that does not need much irrigation,
so in the province, efforts have been made to train and promote its cultivation in areas where one of the These areas are Ghezeltepe.
The official pointed out that in order to deal with the water shortage crisis,
saffron is cultivated in 1000 hectares of national lands in the Ghezel Tappeh area of Zanjan,
noting that: But in the meantime,
we must pay attention to such ideas that have a scientific basis so that we can adapt ourselves to geographical conditions.
He pointed out:
Considering this issue, as well as changing the cultivation pattern,
we can prosper the agricultural economy and also use our small resources to earn income,
and this point should be considered by the officials.
