Supervising the Saffron Market by the Engineering System!
For nearly 10 years, farmers have changed the crops for saffron cultivation and crops for other crops, due to turmoil in the saffron market. These conditions have created a favorable context for the smuggling of saffron bulbs, so that a large amount of Iranian saffron bulbs have been smuggled into Afghanistan and have been sown there.
Ali Hosseini, a member of the Saffron National Council, stating that the ban on the export of saffron after 10 years has been removed and overseeing, organizing and issuing licenses to transport saffron onion to other provinces to the engineering organization, stated that as vice chairman of the association Manufacturers and exporters have heard this news from the media, and no consultations have been made with the associations.
Hosseini criticized this decision, who said, “Would it not be better to consult with the organizations and those who specialize in this field and have spent their lives in planting and harvesting saffron?”
Hosseini says it’s unclear how much saffron onion is to be done, and that there is not enough research in this area. He also expresses concern about saffron smuggling that saffron bulbs leave the border to increase the production of neighboring countries such as Afghanistan, and serious measures must be taken to prevent the smuggling of saffron.
Concerns about reducing Iran’s share of the production and market of this strategic product has intensified in recent years. Especially with planning in Afghanistan and implementing supportive projects such as the Ralph Project (the expansion of the production and market of Afghan saffron), it has made the country a serious threat to Iran’s role in saffron market production and management.
