The area under saffron cultivation in Kermanshah reaches 470 hectares

Kermanshah Jihad Agricultural Organization Deputy for Plant Production Improvement announced plans to increase the area under saffron cultivation in the province to 470 hectares.

Dr. Seyed Afshin Safavi stated: By the end of last year, 305 hectares of lands in Kermanshah province had been planted with saffron, which this year is expected to reach about 470 hectares.

Safavi, stating that saffron cultivation is possible in all cities of the province except the cities of tropical regions, said: saffron cultivation is currently underway in Kermanshah province and farmers have the opportunity to cultivate saffron until the second half of September.

The Deputy Minister of Crop Production Improvement of Kermanshah Jihad Agricultural Organization stated that the conditions for saffron cultivation are farmers’ irrigated lands and added: We have no restrictions for the development of saffron cultivation in the province.

Referring to the plan to cultivate quality varieties of saffron in the province’s farms, he said: In this regard, the province’s experts, after visiting the saffron farms in South, North and Razavi Khorasan provinces, imported quality varieties without onion pests to cultivate in the province. Have.

Saying that the applicants for saffron cultivation in the province are supported, Safavi said: Applicants for saffron cultivation can receive onions at half price.

Safavi then considered saffron produced in Kermanshah province in the list of high quality types of saffron and added: based on the evaluations made with laboratory tests, saffron produced in the province is one of the quality types of saffron that can compete with Khorasan saffron.

He said: saffron harvest in Kermanshah province starts from the first decade of November and continues for a month.
