Within less than two months of the implementation of the government’s announcement to purchase saffron support, that is, 68 tons and 825 kg of saffron produced by farmers in Khorasan Razavi were purchased during the days of November 28 to December 20 last month.

18 supportive saffron shopping centers were activated this year in 17 saffron-rich cities of Khorasan Razavi so that the products of the farmers of this province can be purchased supportively.

Supportive purchase of saffron is graded in the form of four types of products, including Negin saffron, pseudo-saffron, first-class straw and ordinary straw. Accordingly, this year, each kilogram of saffron gem was purchased from farmers in Khorasan Razavi at a price of 105 million Rials, quasi-precious 95 million Rials, first grade straw at 90 million Rials and ordinary saffron straw at a price of 82 million Rials.

90,000 hectares of farms in Khorasan Razavi were allocated to saffron cultivation this year and the volume of crop harvested from this area is equivalent to 320 tons.

Last year, the area under saffron cultivation in Khorasan Razavi was 87,750 hectares and the volume of crop harvested from it was 298 tons.

129 thousand farmers in the agricultural sector of Khorasan Razavi are active in the field of saffron production.
