The Qannat-based saffron farming system was registered in FAO
The Qannat-based Saffron Farming System was registered as the 55th most important agricultural heritage of the world and 3 World Heritage Sites from Iran in the FAO.
The Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, according to the FAO, achieved this important achievement with the acceptance of the documents, documentation and defense provided at the recent meeting of the Scientific Advice Group (SAG) of the General Agricultural Legislation Secretariat (GIAHS) at the FAO headquarters in Rome. This record was made with the pilot of the village of Snoo in Gonabad city of Razavi Khorasan province.
The Ministry of Jihad-e-Agriculture has congratulated this global record on all saffron, saffron value chain activists and agricultural community, indicating a deep link between the people of the region and the principles of sustainable exploitation of soil and water resources in the course of history.
It is worth mentioning that the Global Important Agricultural Legislation (GIAHS) is the initiative of the FAO, which began in 2002.
The goal of this initiative is to identify, introduce and protect the global agricultural heritage.
