Reza Karami, on the sidelines of the start of the saffron harvest in Zarand, said:
Currently, 170 hectares of land in Dashtkhak, Sarbanan and Hatkena areas of Zarand city are under saffron cultivation.

He said that the average harvest of saffron per hectare of land in the region is four to five kilograms and added:
it is predicted that about 800 kilograms of saffron will be harvested from the farms of this city this year.

Seyyed Ali Amiri, director of Jihad Keshavarzi in Zarand city, also said:
Because saffron onions need a little water, the farmers of the region have welcomed the cultivation of this product.

He added:
During this year, the area under saffron cultivation in Zarand valley has increased by 10 hectares.

Amiri announced the amount of employment in the saffron harvest season in Zarand city as 12,000 people per day and stated:
The saffron harvest in Dashtkhak, Sarbanan and Hatkan farms will continue until the end of November this year.

He said that one of the characteristics of saffron in Zarand region is that it is harvested before sunrise and it is unique in its kind.
According to experts, saffron is useful for reducing blood disorders, regulating heart rate, treating mental disorders and depression.
Recent research has shown that saffron inhibits the growth of liver and kidney cancer cells.

Amiri stated:
The good aroma of saffron and its high quality in Zarand city is due to its harvest before sunrise and every year some of this product
is sent to other provinces.
